EDSA Unveils Paladin DesignBase 2.0 Platform for Energy-Efficient Electrical Power Systems Design

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – January 16, 2009 – EDSA Micro Corp. – a leading provider of software tools for electrical power systems design and management – today unveiled a dramatic new version of its software for the design of complex electrical power systems, Paladin DesignBase 2.0, expanding the software’s lead over competing products in terms of features and functions.

For a limited time, the Company is allowing power systems designers to enjoy a 14-day free trial of this new version, as well as complimentary enrollment in its three-day power systems modeling training course in San Diego in February for all new customers.

Product Overview
There are hundreds of new features and functions in Paladin DesignBase 2.0 – woven throughout the 50-module product family – all intended to increase user productivity, while promoting the safety and energy efficiency of the finished facility. The highlights of these include:

Unprecedented User Productivity: Though it contains hundreds of new features and functions, Paladin DesignBase 2.0 remains the industry’s most productive modeling platform.  Unlike other power systems design tools that employ a “homemade” GUI -- which require users to climb a steep learning curve – the Paladin DesignBase 2.0 GUI is reminiscent of products like AutoCAD and Visio.  Its streamlined user interface structure greatly increases navigability… maximizing the user’s time spent on engineering, not hunting for commands.

Powerful Data Management: Paladin DesignBase 2.0 utilizes a completely redesigned Microsoft Access-compatible database, that loads, saves, and runs up to 20x faster than previous versions.  With this new architecture, users can export data to applications such as Microsoft Excel, edit the data in Excel, and export the resulting changes back to DesignBase.

Designing for Energy Efficiency: New capabilities in the Paladin DesignBase Power Flow and DesignBase Power Systems Optimization (PSO) modules now make it even easier for power systems designers to design systems for maximum energy efficiency.  This results in power systems that, once they are constructed, will ensure the highest possible levels of reliability and the lowest possible levels of energy consumption.

Industry’s Only “Deployable” CAD Modeler
Paladin DesignBase 2.0 remains the only CAD modeling platform – in any industry category – capable of extending beyond the design phase, and into live operations.  Using EDSA’s Paladin Live platform, power systems models created using Paladin DesignBase 2.0 are redeployed in on-line mode, to serve as a baseline for the finished facility; by continually synchronizing “live” readings with their corresponding “as-designed” specifications, potential power problems are isolated the instant they emerge.

Because 80% of electrical power problems originate with an organization’s own electrical infrastructure – due to gradually evolving problems like loading, aging of infrastructure, or seemingly minor equipment or procedural changes – the early identification of issue at the “anomaly stage” is crucial in preempting them from becoming larger, operations-threatening problems over time.

“The best time to ensure energy efficiency, promote system-wide reliability, and preempt electrical power problems is in the design stage,” said Kevin Meagher, Chief Technology Officer for EDSA. “When you are managing complex electrical power infrastructure that was ‘perfect on paper,’ you stand a far better chance of achieving your energy and operational goals after construction.  Paladin DesignBase 2.0 enables power systems designers to quickly engineer the most detailed, most comprehensive power systems models imaginable… and keep their engineering know-how at work, using Paladin Live.”

New Pricing Options
Pricing for the Paladin DesignBase entry-level modeler begins at $1495 (US).  In addition, EDSA announced new pricing options for Paladin DesignBase 2.0, including:

Installment Pricing – Allows users to license and use software immediately, but spread out payments over a two-year period, after a down payment of just 30%, and semi-annual payments of 20%.

Project Pricing – Allows user to effectively “lease” software over the duration of an engineering project, after a down payment of just 30% and monthly payments of 10%.
