RALEIGH, NC – Nov 1, 2018 – Power Analytics Corporation is pleased to announce the next generation of power analysis with the Power Digital Twin(PDT).

A digital twin is defined as a digital replica of physical assets (physical twin) with processes and systems that can be used for various purposes.  A digital twin is most commonly considered for assets on a power network such as a power generation device (a generator) or other critical component but can also be a consumer of power such as a compressor or other critical device that uses the power.  Power Analytics takes the digital twin to a new level by employing a power model of the entire power network or grid.

The National Academy of Engineering identified the North American Power Grid as the greatest achievement of the 20thCentury. Power underpins every aspect of our economy, quality of life and the entire society.  All power grids are a complex mesh of wires, generation, loads, switches, and protective devices.  All having to respond instantly to changing demand and generation requirements.

With the advent of distributed and renewable generation, the task has become more complex because of “reverse power flows”. Demands for the highest reliability and availability of energy means using the latest and most advanced technologies in the world.

Using dynamic mathematical models of the entire power network for a building, manufacturing facility or even an entire country, Power Analytics incorporates these digital power models into advanced real time data to present, predict and plan how the engine, known as the power network, will behave based on changing conditions.

The Power Analytics power model deployed in real-time is a digital twin.  The electrical power model created from Power Analytics DesignBase™software (an integrated power modeling and electric one-line application) represents the entire power infrastructure or power network. With more than 5 years of deployed systems and experience integrating real-time data with the power model, the Power Analytics PDT contrasts and compares actual electrical performance of the physical power network with the digital twin of the power network.

Power Analytics PDT is unique in the spectrum of modeling software because of the requirements for high fidelity driven by overwhelming safety standards of power engineering.

The Power Digital Twin can be further incorporated into other tools such as artificial intelligence tools and machine learning because of the architecture of the underlying Power Analytics Gateway™software.  The power model itself accelerates the learning of a digital twin by providing complex electrical rules based on industry standards and verified by safety standards.

This next generation of capability from Power Analytics is a cloud-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) that can be deployed securely on the public cloud or on secure private clouds depending on the requirements of the client.  Power Analytics PDT incorporates advanced power concepts for real-time power flow, device coordination, state estimation, arc flash and many more.

Power Analytics PDT as a tool for end users can simply identify how the power network is performing and any variation to expected performance.  The same tool visually includes actual versus expected and predicts impact of changes in energy, power, availability, cost and maintenance. With role-based options to present high level information or dashboards, the entire mathematical model is instantly available as the native detailed model to electric power engineering professionals including consulting and planning engineers.
