EDSA Unveils Paladin Live 2.0

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – January 27, 2009 – EDSA, the industry leader in advanced electrical power software solutions, today unveiled the second generation of its industry-leading Paladin® Live™ real-time power systems analytics software.

The announcement follows the introduction of the Company’s Paladin® DesignBase™ 2.0 power systems modeling on January 16; that new version contained a wide range of new features that enable power systems designers to optimize their models for real-time, on-line deployment using Paladin Live. By continually validating “as is” performance with the “as-designed” metrics codified in the original Paladin DesignBase CAD model, the two products work together to detect deviations that could indicate potential operational problems. Thus, the Paladin platform is the only real-time, model-validated solution capable of diagnosing electrical power problems or energy inefficiencies at their earliest stages… typically, long before they can have costly or catastrophic consequences.

Because of the data-intensive nature of sophisticated electrical power infrastructure, Paladin Live 2.0 incorporates a wide range of new functionality designed to more effectively aggregate, manage, and present complex power information. Major new features include:

• Paladin® Live Real-Time Energy Management Advisor (see related announcement).

• Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) and OLE for Process Control (OPC), standards that specify the communication of real-time plant data between control devices from different manufacturers. These enable Paladin Live to communicate with a virtually limitless array of equipment and devices used in mission-critical facilities.

• Support for Modbus TCP, a variant of the popular Modbus serial communications protocol, used for communications over TCP/IP networks.

• Enhanced metering and waveform support for leading power products, such as Schneider Electric’s PowerLogic® ION Enterprise meters; Eaton Corp.’s Power Xpert® Meters; and Electro Industries Nexus® meters.

“With the advent of Paladin Live, we created a system that not only provided unprecedented insight into what’s happening in a mission-critical facility… but insight into things that haven’t happened yet,” said Kevin Meagher, Chief Technology Officer for EDSA. “If you think of the Paladin DesignBase / Paladin Live tandem as the ‘brains’ of a modern power installation, this new version – with its enhanced ability to extract data from external devices – is comparable building out the nervous system… bringing more, and more illuminating, information about current and future power system health.”

Pricing and Availability
Pricing for Paladin Live 2.0 is available immediately with entry-level pricing beginning at $20,000 for a Class 1, 500-channel system. Currently, Paladin Live is available only in North America.
