Power Analytics Corporation Receives Industry’s First U.S. Patent for Real-Time Power Harmonics Analysis

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Septembert 6, 2011 – Power Analytics Corporation, the industry leader in advanced electrical power software solutions, today announced that is has been awarded an additional technology patent by U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its Paladin® Live™ mission-critical facility and energy management software.

The new patent – entitled “Systems and methods for performing automatic real-time harmonics analysis for use in real-time power analytics of an electrical power distribution system” – describes the Company’s unique ability to perform detailed harmonic analysis continuously and in real time based on changing electrical conditions of the power network. These “real-time” harmonics are key to the identification of potential problems caused by events occurring in the power infrastructure, e.g. disturbances caused by large, electricity-drawing equipment turning on and shutting off.

Harmonic problems can impact the reliability, efficiency and the longevity of equipment. Such interference can impact the operation of equipment and instrumentation requiring very controlled, clean electrical power; the ability to detect and diagnose such disturbances in real-time helps organizations to eradicate operational problems that could impact maintenance and operational costs. The new technology will be of tremendous benefit to mission-critical facilities including micro grid customers… and builds upon Power Analytics’ growing patent portfolio, as the Company extends its technological leadership in the mission-critical power arena.

“Harmonics problems pose a very serious operational threat, yet are routinely misdiagnosed,” said Kevin Meagher, Chief Technology Officer for Power Analytics Corporation. “The ability to identify potential harmonic problems and introduce mitigating filters to preempt harmonics threats will be of enormous value to facility operators who rely on delicate instrumentation to manage their sites.”

The Paladin® family of products helps organizations to ensure that their electrical power infrastructure is optimally designed (Paladin® DesignBase™), performs precisely as intended in terms of reliability and energy efficiency (Paladin Live), and operates flawlessly as organizations make real-time transitions between public and on-premise power sources (Paladin® SmartGrid™.) By continually comparing operating conditions with the original, as-designed Computer Aided Design (CAD) model, the Paladin platform is the only real-time, model-validated solution for diagnosing electrical power problems or energy inefficiencies at their earliest stages.
